Catriona Lowe(Chair) is the co-CEO of the Consumer Action Law Centre. Prior to joining Consumer Action, Catriona was a Director in the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's Policy and Liaison Branch. She was Deputy Director and the first Principal Solicitor of the legal practice at Consumer Law Centre Victoria and spent five years in practice as a litigation lawyer.

Kerry Connors (Deputy Chair) is the Executive Officer of the Consumer Utilites Advocacy Centre, based in Victoria. Kerry has broad experience in the public sector, primarily with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, including a posting to the Australian Embassy in Seoul. Prior to joining CUAC, she managed her own consultancy business, strengthening relations between the private and community sectors.

Peter Gartlan (Treasurer) Peter has been a financial counsellor for a number of years and is based in the Yarra Ranges in Victoria. Peter is also a consumer representative on the board of Insurance Brokers Disputes Limited.


Jane Hutchison (Member) Jane is Manager of the Hobart Community Legal Service. Prior to this role, she worked for many years as a financial counsellor.  Jane was an inaugural board member of the Financial Services Consumer Policy Centre at the University of New South Wales and is a past chair of the Australian Financial Counsellors' and Credit Reform Association. She has been actively involved in consumer interests particularly in Tasmania for over 10 years.

Amy Kilpatrick (Member) Amy is the Director of the Public Interest Law Clearing House and has been involved in the consumer rights movement since working as the Principal Solicitor of the Consumer Law Centre. She is passionate about stopping predatory lending practices and is chair of the Consumer Credit Legal Centre (NSW) board.

Alison Pidgeon (Member) is a solicitor with Consumer Credit Legal Service in Perth. She has been actively involved in consumer interests particularly in Western Australia for the past five  years and represents consumers in a number of forums in relation to credit, debt and energy issues.

Nicola  Howell (Member) is the Director of the Centre for Credit and Consumer Law at Griffith University. She has previously worked at both the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in senior policy and project roles. She also has strong links with consumer and community organisations, developed through her government career and through policy work with the Consumer Credit Legal Services in NSW and Victoria.

Gordon Renouf (Member) is the Manager Policy and Campaigns for Choice. He has previously worked for community legal centres in Redfern and Darwin, Aboriginal Legal Aid and the National Pro Bono Resouce Centre and has undertaken consultancy work for community and government organisations on consumer, legal service and alcohol policy issues.

John Talbert (Member) Manager in WA of Rural Financial Counselling Service, associated with financial counselling and consumer rights since 1988. Worked with the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, establishing a lay advocacy service in the County Court, representing individuals facing repossession and eviction through mortgage and rent arrears.

Currently involved as volunteer coordinator for Finucare financial counselling service in the Peel Region, and other outreach initiatives aimed at youth and indigenous groups.

Nigel Waters  (Member)  Nigel Waters is a Board Member and Policy Co-ordinator of the Australian Privacy Foundation.  The Foundation is the premier Australian NGO dedicated to protecting the privacy rights of all Australians.  Details are at www.privacy.org.au

Nigel is also Principal of Pacific Privacy Consulting. He was Deputy Australian Federal Privacy Commissioner from 1989-1997. He is a Research Fellow at the Baker and McKenzie Cyberspace Law and Policy Centre, at UNSW, where he also teaches privacy.
